Ive always thought the use of Botox was akin to voodoo, bit of magic. But that's just modern medicine for you just like any cosmetic treatment its origins are from medicine. Its use has filtered to the mass used cosmetically and is considered safe with little to no down time nor adverse effects. Botox which is actually a brand name is a Neurotoxin produced by Clostridium botulinum. The way it works is by stopping muscle movement in the area it is directly injected to. By stopping the muscles activity; therefore think frowning, you no longer create the etched in lines like 11's.
This Toxin is considered very safe by Medical professionals as the amount used in the cosmetic field is minute and highly diluted. Now that we know its safe and is used very routinely to the point its called the lunch break procedure. Its done within 15minutes, has little to no visible evidence of the treatment on the face and no downtime.
But what makes botox Taboo is its perception to others, we know its safe but social media puts out unreal botox results and expectations. Therefore others think you will look fake. Which is so wrong, botox once done correctly leaves you looking yourself except refreshed.
Another concept is ageing gracefully, this is a tricky one I almost don't want to touch. But when you stop dyeing your hair, painting on eyebrows and matter of fact stop exercising then we can talk about to what degree ageing gracefully extends. Or where taking care of yourself needs to stop.
I digress, last month a client came in and she posted on her instagram about how she's off to see me for Botox and she knows its going to trigger some of you. I wonder based on her type of followers what this trigger could be? They think she's fake? Inauthentic? or trying to look any different than she or just dropping the Botox word for a bit of attention. First of all Everyone can get Botox and second of all its become so much more affordable than say 10 years ago or a few decades more when the Hollywood and socialite crew held it away from the normies like me.
In social media there's the before and afters of botox where they are frowning so hard and you don't seee the lines anymore. Ive started posting pictures of before and after at rest. Where the challenge is to see the difference after botox in the person not the muscle activity. Ive posted one here. Would love to know what you think in the comments.
