If my boyfriend tells me one more time that pimples and spots are a sign of youth I might scream. As much as I love thinking that I am much younger than my knees tell me I still don't enjoy a break out. In my case I don't have acne prone skin and I do all the necessary to avoid this including changing my pillows regularly, cleaning my phone, using a separate face towel and using chemical exfoliants as regularly as time will allow.
But every now and then I have a big bold spotty pus filled visitor which is brought on by Aunt Flo. She's fun. Not. Hormonal acne is quite difficult to treat and is seen in adulthood often following menstruation, polycystic ovaries and menopause to say the least.
Its difficulty in treating can look at multiple avenues including using birth control ughhh. The simplest of them all is creating a skin environment that reduces the oil production, reducing the bacteria present on the skin and clearing the excess of dead skin which could house these pockets of acne.
Anyways back to me and my shiny pale visitor. I asked a poll on my instagram "who leaves their spot alone and who pops them". It was a 81% response that you guys pop these bad boys. But you see I walk around with mine like a proud momma protecting it from the family who wanted to pop it so badly!
And why was that a huge no no for me? I have 1 scar on my face and that is from a chicken pox I not only popped but scratched like crazy. That scar and pigmentation lives on 15 years later.
Lets go to school super fast. You pick a spot..... The result is PIH, Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation which is pigmentation following any skin trauma worse in darker skin tones.
Secondly you create scars which are difficult to treat.
The in clinic treatment for this rangers between medium to deep Chemical peels, think removing the top layered damaged skin and supporting healthy skin cells to grow. To Microneedling especially using some Growth factors for instance PRP Platelet Rich Plasma completely natural and super powerful. All great in clinic treatments need great at home care and the big 3 for me is SPF, Vitamin C and Retinol.
The question we all want to know is did I pop my spot? No! My home care also includes topical Growth factor serums from All Skin Med. So this bad boy from eruption to self popping was 3 days!! that's crazy fast, with the magic being no scars once the healing stage is over!
Now you itchy fingers out there you can get spot defences that cover the spots for you so you keep your germ filled nubbins off it. If Im too late. and you have ended up with scars and pigmentation Send me a message if you want to know more about what we can do in my Port Solent Clinic for Skin.
